Teaira McCowan has had a season for the ages, as she has dominated both ends of the floor, having put on a clinic game after game. Deemed the conference’s player of the year, McCowan has been the primary face of the SEC. McCowan is averaging a double double with 17.3 points and 13.4 rebounds per game. She has also accumulated 71 total blocks.
Though foul trouble and free-throw shooting have been an issue, nobody can ignore her paint presence. That said, the senior center’s experience and further leadership qualities highlight her monumental season. No matter the challenge, McCowan has come to play. With the SEC tournament on the horizon, she is sure to put on a show, as McCowan knows what it means to be on the brightest stage.
In Mississippi State’s 68-64 victory over South Carolina, McCowan posted 18 points and 17 rebounds. With only four points in the first half, McCowan was on track for a sub par performance. But with experience comes fight, as McCowan’s came back in the third and led the Bulldogs to an SEC title. Expect McCowan to show out in the SEC tournament and beyond.
While Vic Schaefer has taken Mississippi State to new heights, he has done so consistently. Schaefer has and continues to preach toughness and defense. The Bulldogs thrive on his energy and mindset. Mississippi State, ranked fifth are back to back SEC champs, in large part due to Schaefer’s coaching style.
Though the Bulldogs have suffered heart breaking tournament losses, Schaefer’s teams have made deep tournament runs. He keeps his eyes on the ultimate goal. Look for Schaefer to accept this honor, but have his mind on what matters most.
Hail State!
