As the SEC is stacked offensively, junior linebackers Erroll Thompson and Willie Gay Jr. will have their work cut out for them, in hopes of making their presence felt nationwide.

Both fresh off a breakout 2018 campaign, Thompson and Gay Jr. are now upperclassmen and the focal point of a potent defense. The duo can be a disruption against the run and pass, boasting versatility and speed.

Thompson and Gay Jr. combined for 129 total tackles and 8.5 sacks, four interceptions and five passes defensed in 2018. As these numbers are sure to skyrocket, both will be heavily relied on by second-year coach Joe Moorhead.

While Mississippi State was a top defense last season, the 2019 Bulldogs should stay right there. With that said, Thompson and Gay Jr. will need help from the line and secondary. Expect that contribution and for some of the nation’s most formidable offenses to be neutralized.

Hail State!
