While it will be a long road throughout the summer, Weatherspoon was all business last night to start off his pro career.

As he was a star with Mississippi State, Weatherspoon wasted no time after draft day and came to play in the San Antonio Spurs’ 97-89 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers. Weatherspoon posted 13 points, three rebounds, and two assists in 21 minutes.

Versatile and a formidable two-way player, he can be inserted at shooting guard or small forward. Furthermore, Weatherspoon found the perfect fit in San Antonio, as the Spurs are arguably the NBA’s best as it pertains to player development. Weatherspoon averaged 15.4 points, 5.2 rebounds, 2.4 assists, and 1.5 steals in his four-year Bulldog career. As seen with Mississippi State, he is not afraid of the moment and always willing to show up with the game on the line.

The Spurs are a mixture of young talent such as Dejounte Murray and Lonnie Walker and veterans like DeMar DeRozan and LaMarcus Aldridge, as Weatherspoon should benefit from both. Look for San Antonio to bring out the best in Weatherspoon throughout the summer. Per his work ethic and skillset, Weatherspoon should make his name on the NBA level sooner rather than later.
