Did Mississippi State crack the top 25?

The 2019 Preseason Coaches Poll was released on Thursday, with defending national champion Clemson Tigers claiming the top spot over No. 2 Alabama.

Second-year coach Joe Moorhead and the Mississippi State Bulldogs didn’t crack the preseason top 25, but didn’t go unnoticed, receiving the third most votes of teams that didn’t make it into the top 25.

MSU also received preseason recognition with senior center Darryl Williams and junior cornerback Cameron Dantzler both being named to the Lindy’s Sports Preseason All-America Second Team. Williams and Dantzler were joined by junior linebacker Erroll Thompson and senior defensive end Chauncey Rivers on All-SEC teams. Thompson earned first-team honors, while Williams and Dantzler earned second-team honors and Rivers earned third-team honors.

State kicks off the season on Aug. 31 when the Bulldogs face Louisiana in New Orleans at Mercedes-Benz Superdome. Kickoff is scheduled for 11 a.m. CT.
