An experienced senior, Smitherman’s skillset must be on full display if the Bulldogs hope to open SEC play with a win.
Though a bit undersized, Smitherman is a ballhawk and pure athlete at 5-foot-10, 195 pounds. That said, Smitherman must prove that he is a lockdown corner. The Wildcats will throw the kitchen sink his way. However, Smitherman’s speed and nose for the football should neutralize the Wildcat wideouts.
Smitherman will likely have to deal with Lynn Bowden Jr. and/or Ahmad Wagner, who have combined for 399 yards and three touchdowns on the year. While Bowden Jr. stands at 6-foot-1 and Wagner at 6-foot-5, Smitherman’s physicality may just outmatch Kentucky’s height.
If able to get the necessary help from his fellow defensive backs, all will go well for Smitherman.
Hail State!
