Mississippi State Football: What can we expect from Shawn Preston Jr.?

While the Bulldogs have proven to be a defensive powerhouse, a new star has emerged in the secondary.

A hard-hitting safety beyond his years, Shawn Preston wasted no time in making his name in the Bulldogs’ 44-34 upset victory over the defending champion LSU Tigers.

A sophomore with a sky-high ceiling, Preston led the team with 11 total tackles, six solos. Having started just one game as a redshirt freshman in 2019, expect Preston’s role to only increase following last week’s performance.

Able to read the quarterback’s eyes while also covering ground, Preston is comfortable in the open field. His play provides an already ferocious defense with yet another versatile weapon, unafraid to take on challenges.

As the Southeastern Conference has some of the game’s most prolific wideouts, Preston will have to be consistent. Look for him to be used in multiple schemes and be heavily relied on going forward. With that, there is every reason to believe he will significantly impact the Bulldogs’ home opener against the Razorbacks of Arkansas.

Hail State!
