On Saturday’s newest segment, managing editor, Landon Young, does this week’s Southeastern Conference ‘pick em’s with his father, Gerald Young.
My father is the reason I am so crazy about Mississippi State sports. He brought me home from the hospital when I was born in a No. 1 Mississippi State jersey. Growing up, we woke up early every Saturday and watched ESPN’s College GameDay together while drinking some fresh coffee. As you can see in our cover picture, he influenced me enough to wear a maroon suit on my wedding day.
Every week, I call him before Saturday and we discuss who will win this Saturday inside the SEC. We will discuss betting lines, close games and winners each week.
Let’s PICK ‘EM:
South Carolina at Florida (-15.5)
Pops: Florida wins, but I’m taking South Carolina to cover. I think Florida is going to struggle a little more this week than last week. South Carolina put up a good fight with UT, and I believe they have some talent to put up with Florida today.
Son: UF wins and covers.
Missouri at Tennessee (-11)
Pops: Tennessee wins and covers. Mizzou looked rough last week. I know it was Bama, but still...
Son: UT wins, but Mizzou covers.
Texas A&M at Alabama (-18)
Pops: Bama wins, but A&M covers. My gut says that A&M is way overrated, but I think that Bama will experience a little bit of a let down this week.
Son: Bama wins and covers.
Ole Miss at Kentucky (-7)
Pops: Kentucky wins and covers. I think Ole Miss’ defense is going to give up more than it needs to. Kentucky will slow down the Lane train later in the game.
Son: Mississippi wins and covers (hate to do it).
Arkansas at Mississippi State (-18)
Pops: DAWGS win and cover. I won’t ever pick against MSU. Although, I’ll be surprised if we cover 18 points. I’m picking us to cover, but I’ll still be surprised.
Son: Same,
Auburn at Georgia (-7.5)
Pops: Auburn wins and covers. I like Auburn because of Georgia’s inexperience at QB even though they are supposed to have their guy back today. Georgia’s defense is strong though. I look for this one to be close.
Son: Georgia wins, but Auburn covers.
LSU (-21) at Vanderbilt
Pops: LSU wins, but Vandy covers. I really think that LSU bounces back, but I think Vandy can cover due to their performance against A&M.
Son: LSU wins and covers.
