As the Bulldogs have an opportunity to make a statement against Vanderbilt, junior linebacker Tyrus Wheat will have to be the reason why on defense.
Standing at 6-foot-2, 260 pounds, Wheat is a prototypical linebacker fit for the modern game. Able to get to the quarterback with his timed blitzes, his knack for the game continues to be on full display.
As Wheat is has raw talent with tremendous upside, he must learn to set the edge. That said, he has posted 17 total tackles, including 12 solos, thus far in the season. Additionally, Wheat has recorded 2 1⁄2 sacks and a fumble recovery.
Wheat boasts a nonstop motor. His teammates are sure to feed off his infectious energy, as the defense should be the factor against the Commodores.
Look for Wheat to impose his will early. The Bulldogs’ linebacking corps is one to be taken seriously, Wheat being at its forefront.
Hail State!
