STARKVILLE, Miss. — The No. 9 Mississippi State baseball team secured series win over Wright State with a 6-2 win Saturday at Dudy Noble Field.
Mississippi State improves to 2-0, while the Raiders fall to 0-2.
MSU was fueled by an 11-strikeout performance by redshirt freshman starting pitcher Christian MacLeod (1-0). The southpaw worked five innings where he allowed just a single hit and walked one batter to go with the 11 strikeouts.
Will Bednar then allowed two runs on three hits in three innings. He struck out four batters and walked two. Riley Self threw a perfect ninth inning.
Mississippi State scored three times in the first inning. Jordan Westburg got on base with a one-out single and came around to score on an RBI double by Justin Foscue. Brandon Pimentel followed with a single to put runners on the corners. Kamren James brought them home with a double to left field to give MSU a 3-0 lead.
Logan Tanner added a run to the lead in the second inning with a homer to left field.
Landon Jordan led off the fourth inning with a single to left field and Tanner followed with a double to put runners on second and third. A groundout scored one run before a sacrifice fly scored another.
Wright State scored a pair of runs in the eighth inning on an RBI single and an RBI double, but that was all as State won 6-2.
Tanner led the team with three hits, while Westburg and James added two hits apiece.
MSU will look for the series sweep on Sunday with a 1 p.m. CT first pitch. The game can be streamed on SEC Network+.
