While it was anything but easy, the Bulldogs earned their first conference play victory.
Jessika Carter and Madison Hayes led the way with 13 points apiece. Carter and fellow forward Sidney Cooks battled foul trouble throughout the game. Georgia center Jenna Staiti took advantage, having posted a double-double that included a game-high 17 points and 10 boards. But she could not get enough help and it was Mississippi State that showed up when it mattered most.
As the competition will only be tougher going forward, expect coach Nikki McCray-Penson to address the issues of ball security and foul trouble. Further, look for freshman Madison Hayes to see more minutes. All in all, a win is a win and Mississippi State is 1-0 in conference play.
Hail State!
