CHARLESTON, S.C. — Mississippi State head baseball coach Chris Lemonis and the No. 4 MSU Bulldogs will play against The Citadel Bulldogs on Wednesday, where Lemonis spent 17 years as a player and an assistant coach.
First pitch at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park is set for 6 p.m. CT and will be streaming on ESPN Plus.
MSU (32-10, 14-7 SEC) is coming off a series sweep against Texas A&M over the weekend to earn its fifth series sweep of 2021.
Senior Tanner Allen leads the offense with a .363 batting average, 57 hits, 45 runs and 40 RBIs. Senior Rowdey Jordan has reached base in 27 consecutive games and is batting .306 with 49 hits, 44 runs and 28 RBIs.
The Citadel (11-28, 3-17 SoCon) has lost eight straight games and is coached by Tony Skole, who was Lemonis’ teammate on the military school’s storied College World Series team of 1990.
The Citadel is led by senior Jeffery Brown, who is hitting .321 with 50 hits, 22 runs and 13 RBIs. Freshman Crosby Jones is hitting .305 with 43 hits, 16 RBIs and 10 runs, while junior Ryan McCarthy leads the squad with 27 RBIs to go with 43 hits and 25 runs on .299 hitting.
Wednesday’s game will be the first meeting for the pair of Bulldog programs on the diamond.
