In football, one of the games I've come to dread every year is MSU's annual battle with LSU. That is mostly due to the fact that the Tigers have had the Bulldogs' number for about a decade and a half now, and each year I know State will have to play exceptionally well to overcome the streak.
The same is becoming true for baseball, as State has not beaten the Bayou Bengals in a conference weekend series since 2006. This weekend was the latest battle in the series, and unfortunately for State, things did not change a bit for the better as the Tigers took all three games.
Following that weekend performance, MSU (20-13, 6-6 SEC) took a bit of a tumble in every poll, which is understandable for sure. It's safe to say that State has seen "Better Days" in the polls this season:
And now, here are this week's polls:

As the table above shows you, MSU took fell quite a bit in every poll except Perfect Game's, for some reason. I would feel safe in saying that these rankings are the last thing on the minds of many MSU fans this week after such a convincing sweep by LSU last weekend. Can MSU turn things around? Are the State's batting problems only temporary, or does this year's team miss Frazier and Renfroe as much as we thought they might? We should have some answers to a lot of the questions that remain floating out there as State faces tough tasks in Southern Miss and Ole Miss this week. Another weekend series loss - this one at the hands of the Rebels, at home, and on Super Bulldog Weekend - would make MSU fans quickly forget about the three series wins to start conference play. Let's hope that State comes out ready to play and doesn't allow that.
Hail State
