STARKVILLE, Miss. — The Mississippi State men’s basketball team finished the regular season with a 69-44 win over rival Ole Miss Saturday evening inside Humphrey Coliseum.
With the win, Mississippi State concludes its regular season with a 20-11 record and an 11-7 record in Southeastern Conference play. With the loss, Ole Miss falls to 15-16 on the season and 6-12 in SEC play.
The squads played a back-and-forth contest to start the first half. However, with the score at 21-21 with 7:30 remaining in the first half, MSU went on an 18-4 run to end the half on its way to a 39-25 halftime lead.
The Bulldogs kept the momentum the rest of the game, extending their lead to 22 points at 47-25 with just over 17 minutes left in the game. MSU then led by 27 points at 69-42 with 3:24 left in the game before going on to win by 25.
Earlier this year, on Feb. 11, the Rebels defeated the Bulldogs by 25 in Oxford, Mississippi.
Sophomore forward Reggie Perry paced the team with 22 points and 14 rebounds for his 17th double-double of the season.
Playing on his senior night, guard Tyson Carter scored nine points with four assists and four rebounds.
Junior guard Nick Weatherspoon finished with 11 points and six rebounds, while sophomore guard Robert Woodard II also added 11 points.
As a team, the Bulldogs shot 24-of-52 (46,2%), while the Rebels shot 15-of-51 (29.4%)MSU held a 42-30 rebounding edge.
With the win, MSU gets a double-bye in the SEC Tournament next week and will play on Friday in Nashville against a yet-to-be determined opponent.
