2012 Regular Season Review: Tight End

Mississippi State tight end production was boom or bust in 2012.

Things changed in a flash back in July. Malcolm Johnson, expected to start and have a big season as MSU's starting tight end, was injured in an off-the-field incident. Luckily, a week earlier, Marcus Green was granted a sixth-year of eligibility and gave the Bulldogs another threat at the position.

Green made the most of his extra year by grabbing a MSU tight end record six touchdown catches. Johnson missed half of the season due to the undisclosed injury and showed flashes like he did in 2011, but didn't have the impact everyone had envisioned.

2012 Tight Ends Regular Season Stats:

Player Games Catches Yards AVG TDs Long YPG
Marcus Green 12 19 215 11.3 6 30 17.9
Malcom Johnson 7 10 147 18.4 1 27 21.0
Brandon Hill 11 5 46 9.2 0 19 4.2

Green started off the year on fire by catching three touchdowns in the first two games, including the team's first TD vs Auburn.

After the Auburn game, Green was very quiet until he exploded again in the Tennessee game grabbing six catches for 71 yards and two touchdowns. The Tennessee game was also when Malcolm Johnson made his return to the the field and sealed the victory with this SICK catch.
