Hello, Computer. How's the Internet Today?

Before you get in your obligatory half hour of zoning out at your desk, take a short stroll through some of the MSU-related and maybe-not-so-MSU-related miscellany that the internet has to offer today.

Before we get started, you might notice that things are a bit... different this morning. That's because I, cristilmethod, the self-appointed jester of this court we call For Whom the Cowbell Tolls, am filling in for Prediction? Pain on this Maroon Friday. You may be used to his style of a links post - smart, informative with a touch of cool - but unfortunately, you'll get none of that from me. If Prediction? Pain's links posts are the jock in high school that also got accepted to Princeton, my links post is the kid who always tried to pull whoopie cushion pranks on everyone, and watched Superbad too many times. Anyways, let's get to linkin', shall we?

Morning Linkage

Before I link anything specific here, let me summarize Thursday for you in the MSU sports hemisphere:

or if you prefer

and also, this:

MSU Pitching Coach Butch Thompson hired by Auburn - In an ending that was pretty evident from the start of the process, Auburn yesterday made its baseball coaching hire official, tabbing MSU pitching coach Butch Thompson as its coach to replace beleaguered and former coach Sunny Golloway.  Thompson had been with MSU since 2009 where he landed on John Cohen's staff after a stint at, you guessed it, Auburn.  Butch will be missed, but the ceiling for him was always a head coaching spot, likely elsewhere than Starkville.  Best of luck, Butch, except for one particular weekend next year.

MSU isn't wasting time, as a replacement looks imminent - So the link to the left is behind a paywall and of coaching candidates to replace Butch Thompson, but there's a legitimate chance those may already be obsolete:

That tweet was sent out directly on the heels of Thompson's official hiring by Auburn, all but indicating Cohen and others have known for quite some time that Butch was all but gone, and that they could already know who will replace him?  That tweet could be more broad than indicative of a candidate already in the final stages of a hire; either way, we should know soon, it seems.

Will Redmond tears ACL, ending his MSU career - There are guys you really root for, guys who have bad luck, and guys that are really good, and then there's Will Redmond.  Redmond, who missed 18 gosh dang games to start his career because of some NCAA malarkey is now (all but) officially done at MSU after tearing his ACL last Saturday against Louisiana Tech.  I can't say enough how much I hate to hear that: for Will especially, but also for MSU and its 2015 season.  Redmond is immensely talented, and will be sorely missed.  Obviously we wish the best for him going forward, and don't worry, I have a feeling we'll still see more of him, just on Sundays.

Non-MSU Stuff

In Mississippi-yet-not-MSU-related news from late last night, a sizable brawl broke out at the EMCC vs. Mississippi Delta CC game, causing the game to end before halftime:

Only at MDCC ...

Many have speculated to his thought process, but to me it's clear that #35 has a hot date after the game and is NOT going to mess it up by getting a shiner.

Music Stuff

I started to share a mellow tune here today in light of yesterday's less than par news day.  But then I thought: "hey, why not go the other way with it?"  So I instead decided to share a Metallica song: one that I hope will inspire you to sprint into your place of business, dropkick the first person you see (don't do that), rip the sleeves off your favorite business suit, grab the two best pencils you have and rock the heck out to this one.

This song is far from the most iconic the band has ever made, but it's always been one of my favorites.  So sit back, relax, play some air guitar and drum out the entire solo today to Metallica's MI: 2 tune from yesteryear.

To close things out for today, let's get a look at the weekend forecast from American News Channel USA's Johnny Mountain:

Have a great weekend, everyone.
