Here's what our own Metal Building Dawg had to say about that moment:
MSU was coming off the worst stretch in its history - three consecutive losing seasons. Finally, State got back to the Regionals in 2011 and were able to sweep through Georgia Tech's turf on their way to face SEC-foe, #2 Florida. The Gators were the heavy favorite, as MSU had well overachieved by getting to this point.
Florida won Game 1 of the series 11-1, and they never trailed throughout Game 2. Nick Routt pitched the first three innings for MSU before giving way to Caleb Reed in the 4th. Reed pitched a great game, getting the win after allowing only one run to the Gators' great offense. That run came in the top of the 8th, right after State had tied the game at 2-2 half an inning prior.
Down 3-2 in the bottom of the 9th, Nick Vickerson came up with no outs and a runner on 1st. He ripped the first pitch he saw over the left-centerfield fence...
Hail State
