Much like the Mississippi State Bulldogs, the Alcorn State Braves have not gotten off to the best of starts in the 2012-2013 basketball season. The Braves enter their contest against Mississippi State with a 2-4 record, having defeated Oakwood University and Samford while losing games to Missouri, Stanford, Fort Valley State and Florida Gulf Coast University.
The player to watch for the Braves is their "do-it-all" man, LeAntwan Luckett. The 6-5, sophomore guard leads the team with 14.7 points-per-game, is second in rebounding with 4 boards a game, and second in assists with 2.2 dimes per game.
Fans should also keep an eye out for Anthony Evans of the Braves as well.
Jumping into statistics, the Braves average 64.2 points per game, and they are giving up 67 points per contest. The Bulldogs score 59.4 points per game, and they give up 73.4 points per contest. Both teams have played quality competition to this point per year.
If you are an RPI fan, the Braves come into the contest with an RPI of 160. Mississippi State currently stands at 235.
The Bulldogs project Craig Sword, Fred Thomas, Trivante Bloodman, Wendell Lewis, and Roquez Johnson as their starters tonight.
The all time series between the two programs stands tied at 2-2, with the last game being a 120-65 win in 1990. Mississippi State is 20-2 all time against the SWAC. Game time is set for 7pm at The Hump.
