Malik Newman to Announce College Decision on Friday

5-star basketball recruit and Jackson, MS native Malik Newman indicated via Twitter today that he will announce his school choice on Friday, April 24th at 12:00 PM CST:

The announcement will be live streamed on clarionledger.com.

Newman is a McDonald's All-American and the #4 player in the nation according to 247 sports. His commitment would arguably be the most significant pickup in the history of MSU basketball. As of right now, predictions give Mississippi State a slight edge over Kentucky as Newman's landing spot. After the firing of Rick Ray and the hiring of head coach Ben Howland at MSU a few weeks ago, Newman's interest in the Bulldogs has been renewed.

With the potential to be a total program changer, MSU needs his commitment.

But the fact is that Kentucky is, well, Kentucky. No one will blame the young man for choosing the Cats. UK has incredible facilities and is a pro factory but, it's also true that Newman would be an icon and the face of the program in Starkville and he would be only one of an entire set of blue chip players in Lexington. It will be a tough decision.
