Could Boobie be a future Starkville business owner?

By now you've all heard about BOOBIEvsCOWBELLS-GATE -- which occurred late Saturday evening when former Mississippi State running back Anthony "Boobie" Dixon was denied entry into Cowbells Bar & Grill due to the bar already being at capacity. Because I'm so late to touch on this topic, it's already been well hashed out as to whether or not Boobie should have been granted access (he should have). I understand there are fire codes and a business must abide by them, but simply put, you kinda have to ask a few regular bros to exit if the school's leading rusher wants to enter your establishment.

NEVERTHELESS -- lost in all the back and forth and side choosing in the mess this weekend has been what Boobie tweeted out in his post-entry denial -- that he was considering opening a bar in Starkville:

I added another goal to my list this weekend,I want my own lounge/club in Starkville, things are a little behind Its my job to bring the fun!

— Anthony Dixon (@Boobie24Dixon) April 21, 2013

Now, I feel that it should be clearly stated up front that I do not take everything professional athletes or famous persons say or tweet to be gospel. Boobie also certainly was in a state of unrest, and may have tweeted his intentions to open his own watering hole in Starkville simply out of anger with Cowbells. But that won't stop me from getting excited about the potential of this happening. Dixon, even since he moved on from his time at MSU, has been a staple in Starkville -- often returning for big weekends to visit with the people who cheered him on while he donned maroon and white. So that gives me hope that he may honestly have some interest in opening his own bar in town.

Will this happen? No one knows for sure. I doubt even Boobie knows at this point. But would Starkville benefit from a former player reinvesting in the town? Absolutely. Especially when it's someone like Boobie -- who will forever be loved in Starkville.

Also, here are some potential names for his bar that I'd like to just throw out there:

Another large turnout at Dudy Noble gives MSU a pretty cool place in NCAA baseball history.

Saturday was just another beautiful day at Dudy Noble Field - the sun was shining, grills were fired up from foul pole to foul pole, and maroon and white was everywhere as far as the eye could see. As the game's latter innings began to role around, all in attendance found out that the game we attended -- a subsequent 6-0 win over Auburn -- was the second largest attendance in Dudy Noble Field history at 14,562. The attendance fell just 400 or so short of the on-campus NCAA attendance record of 14,991, set by State in a Saturday doubleheader against Florida in 1989.

Sure, it would have been great for State to break the record Saturday, but even without doing so, State made its mark in another way on the attendance record books. With Saturday's attendance coming in as the second largest all time on campus, Mississippi State now holds all ten of the top ten attendances on campus, all time. The win bumped out a LSU home game against Alabama, which was the last remaining game in the top ten that didn't take place at Dudy Noble Field. Here's a quick look at how it looks now at that the top, with dates, opponents, and attendance:

What else is cool is that should MSU continue to play well this season and earn a hosting spot, then there's a good chance that they could either break the overall record, or add to that stranglehold of the top spots in the on-campus attendance ranks.

Hail State.

Dudy Noble was rocking on Saturday, and the 14,000+ that turned out were not dissappointed, as State claimed a 6-0 victory to win the series.

Mississippi State scored at least once in each of the first three innings, and Jacob Lindgren quietly cruised to a fantastic 11-strikeout day, as State took the series from Auburn with a 6-0 victory on Saturday afternoon in Starkville. The win moved MSU to 32-10 (10-8 SEC), while Auburn fell to 24-16 (6-12 SEC).

Offensively, State used a balanced attack against Auburn, as all but two hitters in the lineup had at least one hit a piece. Catcher Nick Ammirati paced State with a 2-for-3 day while providing two RBI's on a two run single in the third inning.

On the mound, I have to say I was impressed by Lindgren's outing much more when I looked at the stat sheet after the game. Watching him in the stands today, it felt at times as if he just didn't have his best stuff. He went deep in numerous counts, and it felt like he walked more batters than he did. But at the end of the day? Lindgren's numbers were dazzling, as he walked just two while striking out 11 in an eight inning outing that would earn him his fourth win of the season. My hat's off to him - he pitched marvelously, and when I found myself doubting his still being in the game, he worked his way out of jams, and pitched possibly his best game of the year.

I can't say enough about how lucky I feel as a fan to have been on hand today. It was a beautiful afternoon, and the place was packed, although I'm not sold on the 14,562 number for today's attendance. I believe there were a ton of people there today, sure, but if there were 14,562 there today, then there must've been 16,000 at the 2007 super regional game against Clemson that sent State to our last College World Series. What's a more likely scenario is that there were that many people at today's game, and Templeton sandbagged a few thousand on us back in 2007. Either way, it was a cool atmosphere today, and one I'm glad I was able to be a part of. What's even more exciting is the thought that today's feat was accomplished against a middle of the pack SEC foe. Sure, it was Super Bulldog Weekend, and that was what drew the large number in, but if State is able to finish strong and host a regional and/or super regional this year? Wow - I have to think that there's a good chance that 24 year old record (that we hold) goes down this year.

Hail State

The Diamond Dawgs play, how shall we say.. sucky, and lose to Auburn

Kendall Graveman's streak of three consecutive complete games ended in Game 2 (but first game to end) of this weekend's series vs. Auburn. He went seven innings giving up 3 runs, but deserved better fate as only one of them was earned.

Auburn's first run was unearned due to a throwing error by Graveman in the 1st inning. Their second run came on a single in the 3rd that got past Adam Frazier, but a play he should have made and I thought it could have been ruled an error. The third run came in the 5th inning on a sac fly, but that runner got to 3rd base when Hunter Renfroe committed an error in the outfield allowing the ball to get past him - that run was unearned.

MSU had some chances of their own to score but couldn't capitalize. They should have scored in the 2nd when DeMarcus Henderson clearly beat out the shortstop's throw but he was called for the third out. State had the bases loaded in the 6th inning but Wes Rea grounded into a 4-6-3 double play. The 7th inning ended with some horrible bases running by Ammirati that killed a rally (although there were a couple bad calls that went MSU's way, shouldn't have been a rally in the first place). The Dawgs mounted a rally in the 9th scoring their only run of the night and getting runners on 1st and 2nd before Alex Detz grounded out to end the game.

It was the biggest crowd of the season - over 10K. But they witnessed a poorly played game by MSU. For now, State drops to 8-8 in the SEC. Game 1 is also being finished tonight, so we'll know if Saturday's game is a rubber matchup or if Auburn is going for the sweep.

For those of you that don't habla SEC football, that's Mississippi State starting quarterback Tyler Russell, hanging out with his starting center, Dillon Day. In the short clip, known to the kids as a "Vine", depicts Dillon "getting yet another tattoo" (he has many real ones), and Tyler telling him that he wants to get one too. Obviously Tyler doesn't take his as well. It's obviously fake (for those of you who didn't catch that), but it's hilarious. Well done guys.

As is tradition under Mullen, the losing team in tomorrow's scrimmage will come back to the stadium on Sunday to clean.

Honestly, I haven't kept up much with how everyone is doing this spring, so I don't really know who to be watching or what to watch for specifically tomorrow. I do know that I'll be watching the wide receivers and defensive backfield close, although I don't know how much can really be taken away from their performances, as both will feature a great number of new faces.

Also, there's a chance that I do a spring game recap with absolutely no facts and just generalities listed on Monday. Or I may spare you all. I do know that Boobie will be there tomorrow, and I halfway hope that he runs on the field mid-scrimmage and scores a touchdown.

It could happen.

State and Auburn's Thursday night series opener was delayed with MSU leading 6-3 in the 7th inning, but the Bulldogs finished the deal on Friday night by the same score.

Thursday night's SEC series opener between Mississippi State and Auburn was postponed after lightning and heavy downpours hit Starkville hard when State owned a 6-3 lead when play was called in the bottom of the 7th inning.

After Auburn got on the board early with a run in the 1st, Wes Rea absolutely mashed a ball to left center field to tie the game up at one in the bottom of the 2nd. State used a three run third inning to take a 4-3 lead, and were able to add two more in the 6th to expand the lead to 6-3.

Honestly, this wasn't been State's best played game recently, as pitching was not been as sharp, nor was MSU's fielding. Auburn has out-hit the Bulldogs nine to five, but four Auburn errors, coupled with five walks and a balk have been enough to help State string runs together and hold the current 6-3 lead.

Also of note: mother nature absolutely robbed Hunter Renfroe of his 14th home run of the season.

On the mound, Luis Pollorena got the nod, but did not have his best stuff, and he was pulled early for Ross Mitchell. Ross pitched three innings before giving way to Jonathan Holder, who recorded the final two outs of the game before the delay was put in place.

Once play resumed around 9:20 on Friday, Johnathon Holder didn't allow for any drama striking out 5 of the final 6 hitters over the two remaining innings to finish off the victory for MSU, his 12th save this year. Ross Mitchell gets the win (7-0).

The Bulldogs are now 9-8 in the SEC and 31-10 on the year. Game 3 will be played Saturday at 4:00 after the spring football game. A big crowd is expected, let's get the series win!

Hail State.
