There are now just 20 days until Mississippi State football kicks off the season against the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns at Mercedes-Benz Superdome on Aug. 31. Each day up until kickoff I will be spotlighting a player with the jersey number that corresponds to the amount of days until the first game of the 2019 season.
Today’s player spotlight brings us junior cornerback Taury Dixon. The 5-foot-9, 190-pounder hails from Madison, Mississippi, where he played at Germantown High School. He recorded 127 tackles in 41 career games played, including one sack. He also tallied 12 interceptions and 30 pass break-ups, four forced fumbles and two blocked field goals in his time as a prep cornerback.
Following high school, Dixon played in nine games as a true freshman at junior college powerhouse East Mississippi Community College in 2016 where he was coached by “Last Chance U” star Buddy Stephens. He finished with nine tackles, which included eight solo tackles.
The cornerback first came to MSU in 2017, however he redshirted his initial year on campus. In 2018 Dixon appeared in 10 contests over his debut season with the Bulldogs, primarily seeing action on special teams. He did not record any stats over his 10 appearances. Coming into the 2019 season, Dixon has been working hard in camp to give the Bulldogs solid depth at the cornerback position for this season.
