STARKVILLE, Miss. — The No. 3 Mississippi State baseball team will ride a six-game winning streak into a midweek contest against Samford Tuesday evening at Dudy Noble Field. The game is set for 5:30 p.m. CT and will air on SEC Network+.
MSU (13-3, 0-0 SEC) is coming off a three-game sweep of Eastern Michigan to complete a perfect 5-0 week. MSU allowed a total of two runs in the five games, both of which were solo home runs. The Bulldog pitching staff struck out 69 batters over 45 innings of work. MSU’s 13.7 strikeouts per nine innings rank No. 1 in the nation.
Senior Tanner Allen leads the MSU offense with a team-high .328 batting average to go with 19 runs scored and 15 RBIs. Sophomore Kamren James is batting .283 and leads the team with 17 RBIs, while junior Luke Hancock is batting .292 and has accounted for 15 RBIs.
Samford (7-9, 0-0 SoCon) has lost four games in a row, including all three games against Texas A&M over the weekend. Junior Towns King leads the team with a .323 batting average, while senior Ryan Crockett is batting .304 and has driven in nine runs. Sophomore Sonny DiChiara is batting .250 and has compiled 11 RBIs and 14 runs scored.
Tuesday’s meeting will be the 47th for the two Bulldog squads on the diamond. MSU owns a 36-10 edge and won 6-4 in 2019.
