No. 4 Mississippi State baseball back in action against Grambling State

Game time is set for 6 p.m.

STARKVILLE, Miss. — The No. 4 Mississippi State baseball team will play the first of two midweek games scheduled this week when it hosts Grambling State on Tuesday at Dudy Noble Field. Game time is slated for at 6 p.m. CT and will air on SEC Network+.

The Bulldogs (8-3, 0-0 SEC) are coming off a series win over Kent State that was capped off with a 13-0 no-hitter win in the rubber match on Sunday.

The MSU pitching staff has struck out double-digit batters in nine of 11 games this season, including 20 in Wednesday’s 4-1 win over Southern Miss. The Bulldogs rank No. 3 nationally with 13.6 strikeouts per game. Teams are batting .195 against them.

Senior Tanner Allen leads the offense with a .333 batting average to go with nine RBIs and a team-high 14 runs scored. Sophomore Kamren James is batting .311 with a team-high 13 RBIs and four home runs.

The Tigers (0-7, 0-3 SWAC) dropped all three games against Southern this past weekend. Sophomore Cameron Bufford leads the offense with a .375 batting average, three home runs and seven RBIs. Graduate student Cameron Phelts is batting .308 and has scored a team-high seven runs.

Tuesday’s meeting will be the third for MSU and Grambling State. MSU owns a 2-0 record, winning during the 2013 and 2019 seasons. The Bulldogs have outscored the Tigers 20-1, with the 2019 squad winning 18-1.
