STARKVILLE, Miss. — The No. 4 Mississippi State baseball team will host the UAB Blazers for a midweek affair on Tuesday at Dudy Noble Field. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m. CT and will be streaming on SEC Network+.
The Bulldogs (27-8, 10-5 SEC) enter the contest after winning three straight Southeastern Conference series, including a series win over then-No. 7 Ole Miss over the weekend.
Seniors Tanner Allen and Rowdey Jordan lead the MSU offense with batting averages of .336 and .316 on 42 hits apiece. Allen was the star of Sunday’s series-clinching win over Ole Miss as his three-RBI triple put the Bulldogs ahead 7-4. He leads the team with 37 RBIs on the year. Jordan has reached base in 20 consecutive games and leads the team with 39 runs.
The MSU pitching staff has struck out 10-plus batters in a school-record 15 straight games and leads the nation with 453 strikeouts in 314 innings pitched.
The Blazers (12-23, 5-11 C-USA) split a four-game series against Florida Atlantic over the weekend.
Freshman Chandler Simpson leads UAB with a .340 batting average, 35 hits and 21 runs. He has also stolen 17 bases in his 18 attempts. Redshirts senior Zack Davis is batting .267 with 32 hits, 24 RBIs and 19 runs.
The UAB pitching staff has combined for a 5.48 ERA and has allowed opposing batters to hit .270 overall. The staff has struck out 198 batters and walked 146 in 287 2⁄3 innings pitched.
Tuesday’s game will be the 45th for the Bulldogs and Blazers on the diamond. MSU owns a 34-10 advantage all-time and won 3-2 during the 2019 season.
