Montrell Conner Leaves Mississippi State Team

Multiple reports are coming out now that redshirt freshman RB Montrell Conner is leaving the Mississippi State football team for personal reasons, and plans to transfer to Copiah-Lincoln Community College.

This confirms rumors of his departure from the team that were hitting the message boards Wednesday night. At the time, Dan Mullen would only say that Conner was dealing with some personal issues.

Conner was part of a class recruiting by then-head coach Sylvester Croom. When he was let go and Mullen came on board, he was able to secure the class. Many thought Conner would be a good replacement for Anthony Dixon and bring a bruiser-back component to the offense this year.

Kyle Veazey has a quote from Conner, saying that "I felt if I wasn’t happy somewhere, I wasn’t going to play to the best of my abilities".

Dan Mullen said about Conner: "Montrell has been a good student and good citizen, and we wish him the best in the future."

The departure of Montrell Conner leaves MSU with four tailbacks: JUCO transfer Vick Ballard, junior Robert Elliot, true freshman Nick Griffin and redshirt freshman LaDarius Perkins.
