Gents, looks like we just found our next Percy Harvin Dexter McCluster Brandon Heavens. Yesterday, Alonso (Tampa, Fla.) athlete Brandon Holloway verbally committed to Mississippi State over Vanderbilt.
So why did Coach Dan Mullen take a flyer on a 5-9, 155-pound scatback with so few BCS offers you can count them on your hand? Speed. And more speed.
Holloway, who ran for 406 yards and four touchdowns last year, was a Class 4A Region 2 medalist in multiple events. In the April track meet, Holloway clocked a 100 meter time of 10.54 seconds and a 200 meter time of 21.28.
According to ESPN's Corey Long ($), one of the main reasons Holloway picked the Bulldogs was so he can continue his track career once he gets to college.
"That was a big key for me because a lot of the schools that offered me didn't have track teams," Holloway said. "In terms of athletics football will be my main priority but I wanted to have a chance to run track as well."
That's 13 commits down and 12 to go. I keep trying to convince myself to trust Mullen with these "hidden gems" and projects but there's only so many you can take in a class. Quay, Channing, Jason—feel free to pledge your allegiance to State (**cough** and stick to your word **cough**) at any time.
