INSTANT RECAP: Marquette hands Mississippi State their second loss, 89-62, in Maui

MSU (1-3) responded well after a convincing loss to UNC yesterday but could not hang with the talented Golden Eagles (3-1).

UNC couldn't miss Monday and Marquette followed the same trend with a win over MSU.

Despite the lopsided score, Rick Ray's squad responded well after only a 20-hour break. 22 turnovers was the biggest downfall for the Bulldogs. State also, for the second-straight game, did not shoot well from the floor. Only 38% on field goals and 74% from the free throw line. State was also out-rebounded 38-33.

MSU was led by Fred Thomas with 17 points and 4-8 from behind the arc. Roquez Johnson had another fantastic game with 16 points and 8 rebounds but left the game with 9 minutes remaining due to "serious cramps" via a Gregg Ellis tweet. Gavin Ware also contributed with 11 points. Marquette got 18 points from Vander Blue, 15 from Davante Gardner, 13 from Trent Lockett, and 11 from Jamil Wilson. Buzz Williams has a very good unranked squad that could do some damage in the Big East this season.

The Bulldogs will play their final game in the 2012 EA Sports Maui Invitational against the loser of Texas-Southern California tomorrow at 1:30 p.m. After that, MSU will return to Starkville next Tuesday to host Alcorn State at 7 p.m.
