Monday was the first time much of the country has gotten to see MSU Jr. DL Fletcher Cox in action first hand, and Fletcher certainly disappoint. Fletcher turned in one of the better performances amongst defensive line candidates yesterday at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis, Indiana. Coming in, Fletcher was rated in the top 5 of the defensive linemen class, but he may have moved up that list after today.
To start the day, Cox impressed by running a 4.79 official 40-yard dash. Cox pumped out 30 reps on 225 bench press, and registered 26 inches on the vertical jump. Fletcher with 103 inches on the Broad Jump, 7.07 seconds on the 3 Cone Drill, and 4.53 seconds in the 20-yard shuttle.
Although much of today was surprising to many outside the MSU fanbase, it wasn't surprising to us maroon and white faithfull. In his 3 years on campus, Fletcher was known for his quick burst off the ball, his athleticism for a big man, and his ability to perform in any environment (including Indy, y'all). It's safe to say that Fletch's performance today only further cemented his place in the first round of April's draft.
