Very shortly after Rick Ray took over at Mississippi State a month ago, he quickly hit the ground running on the recruiting trail, hoping to fill several voids that existed on the current MSU roster. One of those voids was at the Point Guard position, which was left due to a Dee Bost graduation, DeVille Smith transfer and Josh Gray being released from his LOI.
Today Coach Ray took a step toward rebuilding this team with the first commitment of his tenure at Mississippi State: St John's Military Academy (Wisconsin) PG Jacoby Davis.
Davis, a 6'1", 185 lb Point Guard, averaged 17 points and 5.3 assists last season for St. John's, and told the Clarion Ledger last week that he considers himself a pass-first point guard.
Davis additionally told the Clarion Ledger last week that he also held offers from South Carolina, Seton Hall, Southern Cal and Hofstra.
Jacoby joins Bulldog signee P.J. Hardwick as the only PG's listed on the roster for the 2012-13 season.
Here's some highlights/footage on Davis (he's #1 in Gray):
