Today marks 100 days until the 2012 Mississippi State football season kicks off, and what better way to kick it off than to give you a football fact each day leading into the season. Each day here at For Whom the Cowbell Tolls we will give you a fact - whether it be a player's number, a stat, yardage, etc. - related to how many days are left in until the first game of the season on September 1st against Jackson State. Today we kick off with number 100.

100 Days of MSU Football - Day 100

1980 was a successful year for Mississippi State, as the dogs finished up 9-3 with wins over Miami (Fl), #1 Alabama, and SEC West rival LSU. During that 1980 LSU game, which was played in Jackson, State found themselves tied with the Bayou Bengals 24-24 coming out of halftime. They say the first drive coming out of halftime can swing the momentum greatly in one team's direction, and that's exactly what State did, as Bulldog legend Glen Young took the opening kickoff of the second half 100 (+) yards - endzone to endzone - and gave the Bulldogs a quick 31-24 advantage. State would go on to win the rare shootout between the Dogs and Tigers 55-31. Here's the video of that memorable TD:
