100 Days of MSU Football: Day 97

Day 97 - #97 Josh Boyd

97 days left until MSU football season = #97, the heart of the Bulldog defensive line. He's big. He has dreadlocks. He's coming to disrupt your protection. Boyd thought about going pro like his DT counterpart, Fletcher Cox, but decided to return to Starkville for his senior season. And we're sure glad he did. Boyd grabbed 51 tackles with eight tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks in 2011 and should improve those numbers in 2012.

Remembering #97 - We can't mention the number 97 without remembering Rodney Stowers. He was a starting nose guard on the 1991 team until he suffered a broken leg in a game against Florida. Five days later, Stowers died due to a complication called fat embolism syndrome.

The Orange 97'er - Blondy Black's 97-yard run (ON A FAKE PUNT) in the 1942 vs Duquesne is the second longest in MSU history. (Take time to read fake punt link. Sounds like 'Ole Blondy was the Devin Hester of the 1940s)
