100 Days of MSU Football - Day 5
Today's number, #5, focuses on States current bowl game winning streak, which has been running since 1999. The football dogs last loss was on New Year's Day, 1999 to Ricky Williams and Texas in the Cotton Bowl 38-11. Since that time, State has won the Peach Bowl (1999 - Clemson), Independence (2000 - Texas A&M), Liberty (2007 - UCF), Gator (2010 - Michigan), and the Music City (2011 - Wake Forest).
Could State extend that streak to 6 straight this season? The chance to make a 3rd straight bowl certainly seems to be there. State will have a chance to become bowl eligibile within the first 7 games, and from there, will look to improve their bowl stance for a chance at playing later in the bowl season. But that's half the battle, winning the game to extend the streak is the other. But all we can wish for as fans is the chance to get there, then in December, we can worry about whether or not they can extend that streak, which current is tied with Rutgers for the longest active streak in the NCAA.
