Luis Pollorena gave another solid performance on Friday night, this time going 6.1 innings and giving up just two runs before giving way to a dominating Johnathan Holder. Hunter Renfroe was the star again offensively, and the Bulldogs won game one by a score of 3-2.
The Ags got on the board first with two in the 3rd inning with help from an Adam Frazier error - only one earned run on Pollo.
MSU responded in the top of the 4th when Hunter Renfroe doubled down the left field line to drive in Alex Detz. In the 5th inning, Sam Frost singled to start a two out rally and later scored on a botched pickoff attempt by the A&M pitcher. In the 6th inning, Renfroe went deep for the 11th time this year, giving the Dawgs the lead they wouldn't relinquish.
Holder came in during the 7th (thank you Cohen for going with your best guys) with one out and runners on 2nd and 3rd. Not all of Renfroe's contributions were at the plate as the first batter Holder faced lined to RF, but the runner at 3rd held due to Hunter's great arm strength.
Holder went on to close the game out with a 2.2 inning save, his 10th of the season.
State is now 6-7 on the year in SEC play. Game 2 is Saturday at 12:30 and will be televised by Sports South (replay on the same station at 6:00 if you miss it).
