Shannen Jainudeen sent a pass from Morgan Ferrera into the back of the net in the 21st minute of Mississippi State's matchup with the Memphis Tigers Wednesday, and the lone goal held up to give the Bulldogs a 1-0 victory in Memphis in their exhibition opener of the 2014 season Wednesday.

Freshman goalie Rhylee DeCrane also turned in a solid effort, making three saves on nine Tiger shots.

The Bulldogs will take on Alabama in Tuscaloosa Saturday in an exhibition game made possible because the two teams do not play in the regular season.  Mississippi State coach Adam Gordon said he hopes this exhibition schedule prepares his team for the rigors of season play.

"Now, we get to see what we can do next," Gordon said. "Playing two games relatively close will mirror the regular season. We'll see how we recover, re-evaluate what we do and if we can improve. That's going to be key. We need to see progress in all three areas."

The Bulldogs open up regular season play on August 22 at home against Iowa State at 7pm.
