In the Series Rewind each week, we'll review the records and highlight some past games against each of Mississippi State's opponents. This week, Southern Mississippi.

WORST 3 GAMES

3. 1986- With 5 minutes left, USM drove 98 yards for the go-ahead touchdown, converting a 4th & 7 along the way, while completing their only passes of the afternoon.  USM won in Jackson, 28-24.

2. 1981- State fumbled a punt on our own 14 yardline, setting up USM's only score of the game. Despite out-gaining the Eagles 450-195, #15 MSU lost to #19 USM, 7-6.

1. 1980- A 42-14 blowout loss to USM and star QB Reggie Collier.  One of 2 losses by MSU in the 1980 regular season.  Emory Bellard after the game: "just a sorry exhibition of football execution. I'm embarrassed for our supporters."

TOP 3 GAMES

3. 1966 (homecoming)- Marcus Rhoden returned the opening kick 95 yards for a TD, and State won 10-9.  USM missed the extra point after their touchdown - the difference in the game.

2. 1990- Joel Logan kicked a 41 yard field goal with 3 minutes left and State held on to win 13-10.  USM missed a 47yd FG with 1:15 left that would've tied the game.  Brett Favre completed less than half of his passes and only totalled 124 yards.

1. 1989- #18 USM hit a FG to tie the game with 3 minutes left. State then drove the field and Joel Logan kicked the game-winning points with 4 seconds left.  MSU won 26-23.  Brett Favre finished 18/39, with 182 yards and an INT.  State's Jerry Bouldin returned a kick 96 yards for a TD just before halftime.
