Mississippi State women's basketball powered into the top-ten in the polls for the first time in November, and after a successful week in the Sunshine State, the Bulldogs now have their highest ranking in team history as the squad checked in at No.7 in the latest AP Poll.
The Bulldogs picked up a 68-58 win against then No. 11 South Florida in Jacksonville on Dec. 30, and they followed up the win with a 76-70 victory over Florida in Gainesville to open SEC play Sunday.
The Bulldogs (14-1,1-0) only trail No. 2 South Carolina as far as ranked teams in the SEC. Kentucky checks in at No. 10 following a loss to Auburn. Also in the top-25 for the SEC are No. 12 Tennessee, No. 13 Texas A&M, and No. 20 Missouri.
UConn (11-0), having received all of the first place votes, sits at the top of the poll. Behind South Carolina are Notre Dame, Texas, Ohio State, and Baylor. After the Bulldogs, Maryland, Stanford and Kentucky round out the top ten.
The only blemish on the Mississippi State record came in a 53-47 in Austin to Texas on Dec. 2.
The Bulldogs return to action Thursday night at 7:30 pm at The Hump against Auburn. The Bulldogs will remain at home Sunday to host Arkansas.
