Dan Mullen and Mississippi State needed a win today. The Bulldogs needed to find a way to come away victorious against the Tigers if they wanted to find a way to be bowl eligible. But very little went Mississippi State’s way in today’s game.

Things looked promising to start. Kivon Coman had an early interception that ignited the passion amongst the fans and energized the entire stadium, but the rest of the first half was abysmal for the Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs failed to even slow the Auburn offense in the first half. A 3 yard pass from Sean White got the Tigers on the board to start the scoring, and from there things fell apart for State’s defense.

Auburn would score three more touchdowns on offense before the half was done, all from running back Kamryn Pettway. With a 28-0 deficit, the Bulldogs would then gift the Tigers another touchdown by way of a fumble returned for a touchdown by Montravious Adams.

The Bulldogs would tack two touchdowns on the board in the second half. One from a 37 yard pass from Nick Fitzgerald to Keith Mixon and the second coming from Fitzgerald to Fred Ross in the 4th quarter. The Tigers would then get a field goal late in the 4th to set up the final score.

Mississippi State struggled on many fronts in this game, with the run defense and inability to consistently generate any offensive consistency in the first half being the most glaring issues. Similar to how Flo Rida failed to show up last night, Mississippi State failed to show up today, and there’s no excuse for it. The Bulldogs absolutely need to turn things around here, or the season will surely be lost.
