Vic Schaefer’s squad snagged another win as they went down to Hattiesburg, Mississippi this weekend. Mississippi State (9-0) took down Southern Miss (7-2) in commanding fashion with a 72-50 win.

Mississippi State jumped out to an early lead on the road, scoring 21 points in the first quarter while holding Southern Miss to 6. USM would try to make a comeback by cutting the lead to 33-22 at the half.

However, much like the first quarter, the Bulldogs would not be outscored the rest of the way. Between 18 points in the third quarter and 21 in the fourth, Southern Miss simply had no answer for MSU’s offense.

In addition to points scored, Mississippi State beat out Southern in rebounds (44-30), assists (19-11), and steals (9-8). Schaefer’s team also had two fewer turnovers than Southern Miss.

The Bulldogs were led by Breanna Richardson and Chinwe Okorie in the victory. Richardson’s double-double of 19 points and 10 rebounds was closely followed by Okorie’s total of 18 points and 9 rebounds.

MSU will head up to Arkansas-Little Rock for their game on Tuesday at 6:30 pm.
