Mississippi State's Marta Freitas claimed an SEC Championship in the one mile run at the 2016 SEC Indoor Track and Field Championships a day after setting a 3000m record for the Bulldogs in Fayetteville, Ark.
The championship came thanks to a personal record time of 4:38.21 for Freitas, a mark good enough for third all-time at Mississippi State.
"I'm really excited about the title. I don't believe that I actually won yet," Freitas said. "I just always look to get better. I trusted a lot in coach [Houston] Franks. He challenged me doing four races this weekend. I'm just really happy."
Overall, the Bulldogs tallied 42 points to finish seventh. Arkansas won the event with 110 points.
