In the first game of a Friday doubleheader to start the Bulldog Slamboree, Mississippi State (13-2) beat Chattanooga (12-6) in a shut out 4-0. Vann Stuedeman turned to Holly Ward (6-1) to get the start and earn the win. Ward would face 17 batters in her 4.0 innings of work, throwing 58 pitches and striking out one while walking three, but only giving up two hits. Chattanooga would state sophomore Kailey Palazzolo (4-3).

Mississippi State would get off to a quick start against the visiting Mocs, bringing in two runs in the bottom of the 1st inning. Junior Caroline Seitz got things started for the Bulldogs with a two-out triple, and then would score on a fielding error by Chattanooga, giving her one of MSU's three extra base hits along with an RBI. Mackenzie Toler would follow that up with a single and Sarai Niu being hit by a pitch would set Calyn Adams up with two on and two out. She would take advantage of the situation with a single, extending MSU's lead to 2-0.

The Bulldogs would be held quiet for the next few frames, being unable to do any damage until the 4th inning, where Katie Anne Bailey would hit a double to lead things off for State. Freshman Kat Moore would then get on base with a single and advance all the way to third on an errant throw, which also allowed Bailey to score. MSU's lead would be 3-0 after the 4th inning. State would score their final run in the 6th inning through an Amanda Ivy RBI groundout that would bring Carmen Carter in to score.

In total, the Bulldogs combined for 10 hits, 3 of which were extra base hits, and 3 walks to plate their 4 earned runs. MSU's pitching staff also performed well, as they combined to strike out 9. Mackenzie Toler faced four batters and struck out three in 1.0 inning of relief. Freshman Cori Cooper would earn the save, her first of the season, and career.

The Bulldogs are playing Northwestern State right now for the second game of the double header.
