Joe Moorhead’s 2 Big Hires

The coaching carousel is finally slowing down and head coach, Joe Moorhead, is putting his staff together at Mississippi State. He has started with what he knows best, offense. He is a complete genius when it comes to offense, so he knows the guys that he has to put in place to get his offense rolling.

Moorhead started off hiring Charles Huff on December 1st as the new Running Backs Coach/Running Game Coordinator. Moorhead joined Coach Huff at Penn State in December of 2015. Huff was the Special Teams Coordinator/Running Backs Coach at Penn State for three years. With those three years of experience, this guy knows what he is doing. Also, Coach Huff is a fantastic recruiter. He has already offered the number four recruit in the country (RB) for the 2020 class. Coach Huff also has Saquon Barkley’s name under his belt, so that doesn’t taste bad either. Charles Huff is a solid hire and he’s the guy you want coaching Aeris Williams, Kylin Hill, and Nick Fitzgerald in the running game next year.

On December 5th, Moorhead hired Andrew Breiner as his Quarterbacks Coach/Passing Game Coordinator. Breiner has also coached with Moorhead in the past. Breiner was the offensive coordinator at Fordham University when Moorhead was the head coach there. After Moorhead left Fordham to become the offensive coordinator at Penn State, Breiner took over as head coach of Fordham from 2016-2017. Breiner’s record at Fordham is not too shabby. In his two seasons there as head coach he went 12-10. His offense always seemed to put points on the board. Another solid offensive hire for Moorhead.

Moorhead has not wasted any time putting a staff together and plans to put a defensive staff together soon. He has also made it clear that he will have running and passing coordinators, but he will be calling the plays, as expected. The Bulldogs will undoubtedly be able to put points on the board next year.
