While McCray-Penson will have big shoes to fill in replacing Vic Schaefer, the former basketball star is up for the challenge.

The Bulldogs could not have found a better replacement, as Nikki McCray-Penson’s love and passion for the game speaks for itself.

Having played for Pat Summit, by far and away the game’s best to ever do it, McCray-Penson is well familiar with the SEC. Further, she was an assistant at South Carolina who has stood in Mississippi State’s way as of late. McCray-Penson went on to have a star studded career in the WNBA, picked up two Olympic gold medals, and has her name in the Hall of Fame.

While McCray-Penson brings championship experience to Starkville, she is a player’s coach above all. That said, like Schaefer, expect McCray-Penson to emphasize toughness on both ends of the floor. A huge get for the Bulldogs, look for McCray-Penson to lead next year’s squad and put together a nice run. Big things to come in Stark Vegas.

Hail State!
