STARKVILLE, Miss. — Head coach Mike Leach announced on Wednesday that former Mississippi State linebacker Jamar Chaney will be joining him as a senior defensive analyst for the Bulldogs.
Chaney, a Fort Pierce, Florida native, spent the last two years as assistant director of player personnel for the Florida Gators. Prior to his time at Florida, he was head football coach of his alma mater, St. Lucie West Centennial High School, where he went 11-8-1 and coached the school to its first playoff appearance in seven seasons.
The standout linebacker played for the Bulldogs from 2005 through 2009. He started 27 of 37 career games played. He compiled 198 tackles, including 11 1⁄2 for loss and 2 1⁄2 sacks. Chaney earned All-SEC honors as a junior in 2007 after leading the Bulldogs in tackles with 89.
Following his Bulldog career, Chaney was drafted in the seventh round of the 2010 NFL Draft by the Philadelphia Eagles. He spent three seasons with the Eagles before spending time with the Atlanta Falcons, Denver Broncos and Oakland Raiders.
