Mississippi State Football: What should we expect from Osirus Mitchell?

A proven No. 1 at wideout, Mitchell looks to have his best year as a Bulldog.

While under the stewardship of head coach Mike Leach and catching passes from star quarterback K. J. Costello, the pieces are in place for Mitchell to shine in 2020.

At 6-foot-5, 210 pounds, Mitchell is a real game-changer along the sidelines, boasting height, speed, and athleticism. In 2019 he posted 29 receptions for a career-high 430 yards and six touchdowns in 13 games. Look for his numbers to skyrocket due to the fact Leach’s system will not solely rely on the running game.

As height is critical in today’s game, Mitchell has proven to be a problem for defenses and was underused last year. Leach will be sure to call Mitchell’s number in a multitude of schemes. The Bulldogs offense will be electric, and Mitchell should be a front face.

Likely Costello’s favorite target, Mitchell will have to show up in big moments and be a factor in the fourth quarter. And while Leach will not overuse him, Mitchell’s 2019 numbers should likely double. Big things to come from Mitchell.

Hail State!
