Pops/Son Challenge: SEC Week 2

Managing Editor, Landon Young, collaborates with his father, Gerald Young, on this week’s SEC games

NCAA Football: Louisiana Tech at Mississippi State Matt Bush-USA TODAY Sports

On Saturday’s early segment, managing editor, Landon Young, does this week’s Southeastern Conference pick ‘em challenge with his father, Gerald Young.

My father is the reason I am so crazy about Mississippi State sports. He brought me home from the hospital when I was born in a No. 1 Mississippi State jersey. Growing up, we woke up early every Saturday and watched ESPN College GameDay together while drinking some fresh coffee. As you can see in our cover picture, he influenced me enough to wear a maroon suit on my wedding day.

Every week, I call him before Saturday and we discuss who will win this Saturday inside the SEC. We will discuss betting lines, close games, and winners each week.

Here we go:

South Carolina at East Carolina (SC -2.5)

Pops: I’m gonna take South Caroline, but Vegas must know something we don’t.

Son: Geez... it’s at East Carolina, but I’m still taking the Gamecocks.

Pitt at Tennessee (PITT -3.5)

Pops: Give me PITT in this one, but I hope I’m wrong.

Son: Neyland is going to win this one for the Volunteers. I’ll take UT.

No. 13 Florida at South Florida (FLA -28.5)

Pops: I think Florida covers the 28 points.

Son: South Florida looked really bad last week against NC State. I imagine UF rolls with this one and covers the 28.

Colorado at No. 5 Texas A&M (A&M -17.5)

Pops: I’m gonna take Colorado to cover those points.

Son: This one is a tough one to pick, but I think TA&M scores a late TD and goes over 17.5.

UAB at No. 2 Georgia (UGA -24.5)

Pops: I’m gonna take UAB to cover those points too! I’ll tell ya why... UAB’s coach is one of the most underrated coaches in the country. He wins with less talent. He won’t win today, but I think he’ll eat the clock up and stay inside those points.

Son: I’ll take UGA, but I’m afraid they can’t score offensive touchdowns (lol).

No. 15 Texas at Arkansas (TEX -6.5)

Pops: I’ll take Texas in this one.

Son: I’ll take Arkansas to cover the points. I honestly think they have a shot to win this ballgame.

Missouri at Kentucky (KEN -4.5)

Pops: I like Kentucky in this game.

Son: I’m taking UK to win big in this one.

Vanderbilt at Colorado State (CSU -6.5)

Pops: I have to take Colorade State to cover in this one after last week’s debacle.

Son: I’m taking Colorado State to beat Vandy by much more than 7... Sadly.

Austin Peay at Ole Miss (-34.5)

Pops: OM by 50.

Son: I hope that^ isn’t the case, but I’ll also take OM to win big.

McNeese @ LSU (-38.5)

Pops: I’m taking McNeese to cover the 38 points.

Son: I think Coach O tries to prove this LSU team is better than they showed last week. I’ll take the Tigers to cover.

N.C. State at Mississippi State (NCSU -2.5)

Pops: I can’t pick against us. Hail State!

Son: I’m gonna take the DAWGS in a pick-em matchup. Dawgs win in a close one.
