Stars, folks! Scholarship offers, fellas!
On Monday, Mississippi State picked up a quality commitment from Memphis (East High) athlete Will Redmond, who choose the Bulldogs over Tennessee.
After a series of commitments from projects and players off the beaten path, Redmond's selection of the Bulldogs give "star fans" a temporary sigh of relief on the recruiting front. Redmond is a legit three star player on all of the recruiting services and boasts offers from North Carolina, Tennessee, Notre Dame and Miami, among others.
Redmond transferred to East this year after developing into an explosive weapon for Manassas High. Last season, the speedy 6-foot, 180-pound quarterback, ran for over 1,800 yards and 11 touchdowns, while throwing for 866 more yards. While he is currently a jack of all trades, he tipped his hand during yesterday's press conference that he'll probably line up at safety when he arrives on campus.
"They have two safeties graduating," he said. "So they said they'll be looking for me to come in and help the team as soon as possible."
Of course, Redmond can change his mind on a whim and end up signing with Tennessee. Teenagers are known to change their minds. But it doesn't seem to me like he'll change his mind. Among his reasons on picking Mississippi State, he mentioned how the distance to Starkville played a big role in his choice. Only 182 days until Signing Day...
