EA Sports NCAA Football '13 Simulation: Mississippi State vs LSU

Well we've had back to back weeks of simulations predicting that State would win only to see the Dawgs lose badly in the real games. So with that in mind, let's hope the virtual Tigers blow out the Bulldogs in this week's simulation!

Ronald Martinez

1st Quarter:

LSU wins the toss and elects to kick off first. Bulldogs will begin their first drive of the game on the 20. On first down Tyler Russell scrambles forward for a five yard gain. Second down is another quarterback keeper and this time it's a loss of a yard...Russell shaken up on the play. Dak Prescott comes in on third down and he can't find anyone to throw to...he gets rid of the ball...Bulldogs punt.

LSU muffs the punt but somehow get it back and make a decent return out of it. Tigers will begin their first drive at their own 30 yard line. Zach Mettenberger is going with a pass play on first down but the ball is batted down by Louis Watson for an incompletion. On second and ten Mettenberger hands the ball off to Spencer Ware and the back plows forward for a small three yard gain. It's now third and seven...Mettenberger dumps a quick pass off to Ware and this time the running back gets enough for a first down. With a fresh set of downs Mettenberger hands the ball to Ware again for another small gain...only one yard. On second down Mettenberger throws a deep pass to the end zone...the receiver is well covered but it doesn't matter because the pass out ran the receiver for an incompletion. On third and nine the quarterback drops back to pass again and once again throws a deep ball...unfortunately this time it's caught near the MSU ten yard line. The receiver is brought down immediately. It's now first and goal for the Tigers. Mettenberger goes to the air...his target is the back corner of the end zone...the ball is nearly picked off by Jonathon Banks. It's now second and goal...this time Mettenberger hands it to Ware again and the back gets a good positive gain...LSU on the three yard line. On third down the ball is handed to Michael Ford...the running back is stopped at the two yard line! LSU is going to go for it on fourth and goal. The ball is given to Michael Ford again and this time it's enough...LSU leads it 7-0.

Bulldogs settle for a touchback and will start their next drive at the 25. Tyler Russell must have been hurt worse than I thought because Dak Prescott is still in the game. The first play is a pass...it's caught near the sideline by Jameon Lewis and he is tackled at the 47 yard line for a big gain. Prescott puts it in the air again and now it's second and inches...Prescott fakes a handoff and picked up several yards...Bulldogs now in LSU territory. On first down Prescott hands it to Perkins...the back makes some good cuts and picks up a first down and more. Bulldogs now at the LSU 25. On the next play the ball is given to Perkins again...he picks up another first down and the ball just inside the 15. Once again the ball is given to Perkins...the back picks up five yards. Mettenberger fires another quick pass to the sideline and picks up another six yards. It's second and four. Mettenberger's pass is dropped by Kadron Boone for an incompletion. It's third and four now. This time the ball is pitches to Ware...the back plows ahead and gets enough to earn a first down. LSU now near the MSU ten yard line. Mettenberger throws an odd looking backward pass to Ware...Bulldogs are all over it...loss of five on the play. On second and fifteen Mettenberger can't find anyone to throw to...he scrambles and gets ten yards out of it. It's now third and five. Mettenberger can't find anyone to throw to again and has to throw the ball away. LSU settles for a field goal to extend their lead 10-3.

Bulldogs begin the drive at the 25. Prescott fires a pass to Jameon Lewis but the play is inches short of a first down. Perkins picks up the rest and a lot more on second down. He's tackled near the 45. The next play is another hand off to Perkins...he only picks up a yard. With time beginning to become a factor MSU takes a time out. There's two minutes left in the half. Another hand off to Perkins...he gets three more yards. And another hand off to Perkins...no gain on the play. Tigers take a time out before MSU punts.

LSU will begin their next drive at their own 19 yard line. Mettenberger can't find anyone to throw to again...he's sacked for a four yard loss! On second down Mettenberger completes a pass for only a one yard gain. State burns up the rest of their time outs to conserve time...LSU punts with about a minute left in the half.

Prescott and the Bulldogs will go to work at their 49 yard line to start the next drive. The first pass is incomplete. Second down sees a completion...but its only a five yard gain. On third down Prescott drops back to pass...he's looking down field...and unfortunately he never gets a chance to throw. Prescott receives his first sack of the day. Bulldogs are forced to punt the ball back.

LSU used their time outs to conserve time and they have 27 seconds to score. They begin the drive at their own 24. Mettenberger drops back to pass and his pass is intercepted by Corey Broomfield! Bulldogs have the ball again at their 49 yard line. Prescott can't find anyone to throw to...hes scrambling...he finally passes the ball but its dropped. Another pass for a small completion ends the half. Bulldogs go to the locker room trailing 10-3.

HALFTIME 10-3 LSU

The next play is another backwards pass to Ware...hes met immediately by a maroon jersey and now its second and eighteen for the Tigers. Mettenberger fires a deep pass to the end zone where there is not one, but two open receivers. Tigers score another easy TD and now lead it 24-3.

MSU takes over at their 25 after the touchback. Russell launches a precision pass to Chris Smith for an immediate first down. Bulldogs now at the 41. A couple of running plays by the Bulldogs earn a first down and MSU is near their own 40. Perkins picks up another eight yards on first down and then runs for a few more on second to pick up another first down. On the next play Perkins runs for two and unfortunately is injured in the process. Russell laterals to Josh Robinson on second down and the back picks up a couple of more yards.
