Quick Hits: Mississippi State 20, Alabama 25

It was a disappointing game but this season is far from over.

John David Mercer-USA TODAY Sports

First things first, get those negative thoughts out of your head. Yeah, we lost to Alabama but we're still 9-1 and this is still the greatest season that MSU has ever had. Here's a few takeaways:

  • The defense played incredible. The Psycho Defense stepped up at nearly every turn and made some incredible plays. They held a lauded Bama offense to 25 points and only 7 points in the 2nd half. They couldn't force any turnovers and gave up an extremely crucial touchdown in the 4th quarter but all things considered, State's defense played as good of a game as they possibly could.
  • The offense didn't warm up until it was too late. Dak and company just couldn't produce anything in the 1st half and it caught up to them in the 2nd. In addition to the slow start, Dak threw three interceptions and it was just too much. This performance also likely killed any Heisman chances Dak had but honestly, that doesn't even matter.
  • Playoff and SEC Championship hopes are definitely still alive. There's a very good chance we still make the playoff if we win out depending on how everything else shakes out. We must beat Ole Miss and then our fate really lies with Auburn. If Auburn beats Bama ,we make the SEC Championship. It's unfortunate that we don't control our own fate now but that's just the nature of playing in the SEC West.
  • I'm just proud of our guys. After going down by 19 points, we never gave up. We lost by 5 points in Tuscaloosa, there's nothing to be ashamed of and a lot to be proud of. This team just fights and they're tough. If we can get our shot in the SEC Championship or the playoff, I really like our chances to win. Now we just have to move on and up and get ready for Vandy and pray that things go our way.
Hail State.
