New Coaches Poll Rankings: Where did the Mississippi State Bulldogs Rank?

Everyone knew that the Mississippi State Bulldogs would drop in the polls this week. How far did they drop in the Coaches Poll, who is ranked above them, and who is the new No. 1 team in college football?

David Manning-USA TODAY Sports

In the first look at how voting bodies may feel about the college football landscape now that the Mississippi State Bulldogs area a one-loss team, the coaches of the Amway Coaches Poll have decided that Florida State should return to the mountain top after Mississippi State lost 25-20 to Alabama Saturday in Tuscaloosa.  They also decided that Mississippi State has a better team than several one loss programs, as the Bulldogs finished at No. 4 in the rankings.

The Bulldogs, who rose to the top faster than any team in the history of the poll, face Vanderbilt this week before facing No. 8 Ole Miss to close the season.  The matchup against Ole Miss will be the fifth such matchup the Bulldogs have faced this year, giving them a chance to hold four wins over top-25 teams by the end of the season.

The SEC saw the following teams find a home the top-25 rankings this week: No. 2 Alabama, Mississippi State, No. 8 Ole Miss, No. 10 Georgia, No. 17 Auburn, and No. 20 Missouri.

Texas A&M and the Arkansas Razorbacks, while receiving votes, did not get enough to get into the rankings. Notre Dame, Clemson, and LSU fell out of the rankings.
