Trailing by three points at the half, the Mississippi State Bulldogs rallied back to pick up an eleven point victory over Western Kentucky to claim the Preseason WNIT Title with a 88-77 victory over the Lady Toppers Sunday at the Humphrey Coliseum in Starkville.
In the first half, neither team managed to gain much of an advantage over the other, but over the final three minutes of the half, Western Kentucky managed to settle into a 42-39 halftime lead.
The Bulldogs trailed for much of the second half, by as much as nine points at the 12:57 mark, before beginning to chip away at the Western Kentucky lead. A Victoria Vivians jumper with 6:57 left in the game moved Mississippi State ahead 70-69, their first lead since the 4:27 mark in the first half.
The Bulldogs never trailed again as they moved ahead to victory.
Morgan William and Ketara Chapel led the Bulldogs with 17 points each, and Vivians added 16 points. Dominique Dillingham also added ten points for the Maroon and White.
Chastity Jones and Alexis Govan both scored 20 points for Western Kentucky. Kendall Noble added 19 points.
The Bulldogs (4-0) will host Louisiana-Monroe Tuesday. Western Kentucky (3-1) takes on Louisville Tuesday.
