Mississippi State Bulldogs Tumble in Coaches Poll Following Loss to Ole Miss

Did the Mississippi State Bulldogs hang onto a top-ten ranking after losing the Battle for the Golden Egg Saturday?

Spruce Derden-USA TODAY Sports

The new Amway Coaches Poll is out, and the news was not good for Mississippi State.  The Bulldogs, who went from unranked to No. 1, dropped from No. 4 to No. 10 in the latest coaches poll.

Alabama held onto the No. 1 spot, followed by Florida State and Oregon. TCU and Baylor round out the top five with Ohio State and Michigan State taking the next two spots. Arizona and Kansas State also jumped into the top-ten at Nos. 8 and 9.

Right behind the Bulldogs are No. 11 Wisconsin, No. 12 Georgia Tech, and No. 13 Missouri.  With all three teams playing in a conference championship game next Saturday, it is not out of the realm of possibility that all three teams could jump the Bulldogs with victories over the No. 6, No. 2, and No. 1 teams respectively, and should Ohio State, Florida State, and Alabama lose, they could all stay ranked ahead of Mississippi State, pushing the Bulldogs to the 13th spot.

Ole Miss checks in at No. 14 in the coaches poll.

Though the Bulldogs dropped six spots, they were not the team that fell the furthest this week.  That honor goes to UCLA, as the Bruins dropped from No. 10 to No. 17.

Ultimately, this poll does not matter, but it does provide interesting insight into how a voting body feels about the top teams in college football.
